Educational Tours
Mill Hollow can provide your day care or school class an educational tour of a Christmas tree farm. The level of the tour will be tailored to the grade level of the group.
Requirements
1. Reservations are an absolute must and must be at least seven days before the desired date. One person must be the designated contact for the group.
2. Each group must have a confirmed reservation for either the morning (9 AM to 11:30) or afternoon (12:30 PM to 3:00 PM) on one of the available dates indicated in the calendar below:

Because of other farm operations, these tours can only be conducted on the days indicated in the above calendar. These tours must also be by confirmed reservation.
3. Groups must arrive between 8:30 to 9 AM for the morning tour and noon to 12:30 PM for the afternoon tour.
2. A charge of $3.00 per child must be paid by the group leader on arrival at the farm. Chaperones, bus drivers and teachers are free.
3. Each group must have at least one adult per eight children and must accompany and if necessary control the children. .
4. If it rains or is extremely cold, all tours will be cancelled and rescheduled if possible. If weather is in question, please call the farm at 936 377-4044.
5. If lunch is to be eaten at the farm, each group may bring their own food and drink and can use the outside picnic tables in the picnic area.
Educational Topics Covered
Topics to be covered include the following and will be varied and expanded if necessary to the age level of the children and their interests:
1. Critters of Mill Hollow including snakes and why they love a Christmas tree farm.
2. How a Christmas tree grows from seeds in pine cones, to seedlings and finally the care we take for it to become a beautiful Christmas tree.
3. The purpose of the roots, trunk and needles of a Christmas tree.
4. How a real Christmas tree creates Oxygen for all to breath.
5. Why a real Christmas tree is good for reducing Global Warming.
6. Answer questions from students, teachers or chaperones
7. If applicable, a verbal test will be given to see if students did absorb the provided information.
School Tour Schedule
1. Your group will be greeted on arrival and advised on the days activities and schedules. During this time, the teacher/group leader will make payment for all children. We do not collect from individual students since this will delay the activities for all.
2. If necessary and especially for the younger children, we will provide an activity like tire rolling to reduce energy level before educational tour starts.
3. We will divide large groups into 25 or less for the educational tour. Each group will go on the tour while the other group(s) take advantage of Mill Hollow's activities. Chaperones and teachers must be with all groups at all times.
4. Tour/discussion will be in a Hay Wagon and will include going around the Christmas tree field, past the old haunted house, by the tree swing and forested trails and through the woods.
5. Recommended activity-A walk in the woods, over a wooden bridge and to the back maze hill with the students collecting leaf samples along the way. Chaperones and teachers must accompany the students.
Qualifications of the Instructors
Marge-A Texas certified teacher with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education with teaching experience.
Denny- A Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Chemical Engineering.
Group Reservations
If interested and want to make reservations or if you have questions, please contact us . We must know the following information for reserving a day for your group.
1. Preferred date desired from the calendar above with an alternative suitable date.
2. Morning or afternoon tour
3. Contact person email and telephone number.
4. Group name. (1st grade, abc elementary etc.)
We will send an email to the contact person verifying the date, time and group size and call if a conflict exists.
